MALVIRA ROERO NEBBIOLO
$27.99
PIEDMONT, ITALY
The Roero is in Piedmont, Italy and has 23 communes. Before the year 1000 AD, the entire “Roero area” was completely covered by sea. This history gives the sandy and calcareous soil that is found throughout the area. The winery began in the 1950s by Giuseppe Damonte. Today the estate is run by Massimo and Roberto Damonte and is still a vibrant family business. The wives of Massimo and Roberto are also involved and run their beautiful 13-room luxury hotel and restaurant on the property.
This wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo from 25-35 year old vines. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, and then ages for 20 months in oak casks up to four years old. Then another year in bottle. It has a nicely dry dark berry mouth feel with some rusticity. Yet is beautifully smooth on the palate.
