“Respect tradition. Embrace progress.” This is the mission of WhistlePig, and a core value that is upheld daily within their compound. Jessica, Tülay and I recently had the privilege of visiting the distillery, and saw the entire team’s dedication, commitment and respect for their craft firsthand.
Some of the highlights of our trip included touring the property, meeting the famous mascots, learning how to make maple syrup, enjoying delicious food and drink, blending and selecting our two new private labels, and of course, meeting the faces behind WhistlePig.
During our stay at the Farm, we were welcomed as family. Our tour guide Jesse was with us every step of the way – his warmth and kindness did not go unnoticed. We felt like old friends reconnecting, as we shared stories of our families, travels, and future plans. His joyfulness set the tone for our stay, where we quickly learned the entire team was just as wonderful.
Everyone we met was full of pride for their contributions to the brand, and excited to educate us on their role. What stood out the most was their genuineness. While everyone working there was visibly busy, no one was bothered to stop and chat, in fact, they welcomed it! While we were observing their in-house, by hand bottling process, one of the team members, Rick, came out to introduce himself. He explained the process in more depth and shared a taste of the whiskey currently being bottled.
We can’t wait to visit again and hope to welcome our new friends to The Savory Grape soon! Thank you, WhistlePig, for your hospitality, graciousness, and partnership – our hearts are full of gratitude.
Now, on to the whiskey selection and blending process!
10 Year Single Barrel: We tasted four different single barrels, and after much thought and deliberation, found the perfect addition to our private label collection! It stood out to us for its complex nature – showcasing notes of tropical fruit on the bouquet, and warm, maple spice on the palate. A fabulous sipper for any whiskey enthusiast!
12 Year (the TSG Gal Edition): After sourcing our 10 Year barrel, we got to work making our own whiskey blend just for you! We worked closely with Lead Blender, Meghan, and her counterpart Mitch, to bring our vision to life. They carefully, and patiently, guided us through crafting four unique blends comprised of three different whiskeys – aged in Port, Sauternes, and Madeira casks! Experiencing this process hands on was such a treat, and truly an unforgettable experience.
