Fernet is a type of amaro, bitter, that falls under the category aromatic spirit. It’s made from a number of herbs and spices which include myrrh, rhubarb, chamomile, cardamom, aloe, and especially saffron, with a base of grape distilled spirits. Contratto’s has a seductive roundness, herbaceousness and sweet yet bitter quality that is typical of Fernet. Caramelize sugar is used for the coloring. Not caramel.

Serve With: Serve as a digestif after a meal, or also with coffee and espresso or mixed as a cocktail. It may be served at room temperature or on the rocks (with ice).
