Vineyard Spotlight: Teutonic Wines

Teutonic Wine Company was founded on a dream and love for wine. In 2005, Proprietors Olga & Barnaby Tuttle set out to do the unthinkable – start a vineyard with no winemaking experience, equipment, or financial backing. Their initial two-acre vineyard was a passion project, and one they cared for by hand. With a little patience, and a whole lot of love, that tiny operation has grown to creating 4,000-6,000 cases of wine a year!

Influenced by the Mosel Valley in Germany and Alsace in France, Teutonic celebrates the characteristics of these wine regions in Oregon. Only working with cool-climate growing sites, adhering to natural farming practices and minimal intervention, Teutonic reflects all that is natural in winemaking, from vineyard, to cellar and to bottle. Teutonic’s style is consistent throughout all its wines – crisp, bright and with balanced acidity, making them easy to pair with food. What better way to learn about the wines than from Olga & Barnaby themselves? Keep reading for a crash course education directly from the team at Teutonic Wines. Learn & purchase them below.

Jazz Odyssey White BlendRiesling & Gewürztraminer blend. Tangy off-dry (meaning slightly sweet) perfect for quenching your thirst when eating hot & spicy foods! 300 cases produced. ($18.99)

Candied Mushroom Riesling100% dry Riesling. Inspired by David Chang’s sense of umami, this is one of the best Rieslings. We refer to it as our umami tsunami! The fruit comes from Crow Valley Vineyard in Southern Willamette Valley. We’ve been lucky that the fruit has consistently come with botrytis, also called Noble Rot, which concentrates the flavors when the grapes dehydrate on the vine and get fuzzy from the mold (good kind of mold). We recommend waiting a few months or even longer. 225 cases produced. ($32.99)

Sea Sponge Late Harvest Grüner Veltliner100% GV! A new wine from the mind of Barnaby Tuttle. It is pretty and lush with just the right amount of acid. ($33.99)

Alsea BlancAlsea Blanc is a 50/50 blend of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Meunier from our estate vineyard near the Oregon coast. One the nose you will smell red apple, sweet corn and Rainier cherries tinged with mint chamomile, with a refreshing and subtly creamy textured palate delivers just what the nose promised. Only two barrels made! ($33.99)

Candy Cap RieslingThis new wine is a sister to our storied Candied Mushroom. Picked later in the harvest, this wine is a tad riper and palate coating. 100% covered in noble rot (the great kind), this is simply delicious. ($35.99)

Seafoam “White” Pinot NoirThe 2020 vintage of Seafoam is a rosé of Pinot Noir. This light pink wine with light taste of the ocean will quench your thirst and leave you hankering for more. Drink now. 475 cases produced. ($32.99)
